Jazzy, acoustic-pop greatness!
If the radio played this kind of stuff more often, I would listen to the radio. What can I say? I'm thoroughly impressed. This was a brilliant performance of a beautiful song. The lone acoustic in the beginning was nice, and established that seductive, jazz-infused chord structure. When that wood bass kicked in, this song really started to groove. That doesn't really do the wood bass justice though, so let me just come out and say that I goddamn love that wood bass. If a girl is playing that wood bass, I am compelled to ask her to marry me. That's how sweet the wood bass is.

The vocals are excellent too! The singer is absolutely dead-on, and has a quality all her own. She obviously isn't trying to sound like anyone else. I like the contrast of the more prose-oriented lyrical style in the verse, and the simple, catchy hook. This is all a nice bonus, but honestly, you could be singing the Chinese national anthem and I'd still listen, because I love the melody and the voice, and the interlude with the guy mimicing the instrument, and the whole song, and did I mention I love that sexy wood bass?**

Seriously guys, excellent job. If this isn't near the top of the charts already, I hope it gets there, because it deserves it. Wonderful, creative arrangement, great playing and singing, and mixed well- what more can you ask for. Full marks, and then some.

** I hope that WAS a wood bass of some sort, because otherwise I'll feel kind of silly.

But I'll stil love it.

This song makes it better
Very impressive intro I all most wanted it to stay in that most depressing mood. But, I am glad it took the past from sad to melancholy, to the possibility of a light of hope.

Great up right bass riff!

There is NO difference from this song performance and recording of this song then from anything I have heard on the radio…I hear NO reason why this song can not be on the radio. I really like the lead vocal in the tricky repetition of the chorus before the solo...

Nice scat during the solo…

But… the vocals coming back in after the solo were a little off…and the hook “ Maybe one day things will get better” became too cliché and trite…do you know what I mean?

I think this is a good song with a great performance and great production and recording. I think it would have potential for that new RFK movie this is much better than the Aretha Franklin tune…

However, if you could be more specific at the end with maybe some kind of call and response to how things will get better or what we need to do to make them better. Or an alternating line to Maybe one day things will get better…open your heart and you’ll see… something to add a change to keep the strength of the feel instead of over done repetition…especially at the end.

Please do not take my criticism as a knock, just trying to help this song get on the radio where it belongs.
